54% of Forman’s students are economically disadvantaged. 40% have limited English proficiency. And 15% have special education needs. Woodcreek Church now sends 15 tutors to the school each week. They provide an after-school science program designed to boost the school’s science test scores; positive behavior support in the form of t-shirts and books; mid-year school supply replenishment; scholarships for field trips; and other things. The church plans the school’s field day in May; hosts teacher training in August; and adopts needy families for Christmas. In 2010, Woodcreek Church will be focused more on getting parents more involved where possible, but there’s always room for more outside volunteers. If you’d like to get involved – or if you have questions – please contact Rusty Harding at rharding1956@sbcglobal.net.
Coming in March 2010: 25 new church-school partnerships with Episcopal Diocese!
